Since 1990 Ms. Pollack has masterminded the exterior design and coordinated the interiors of all Abodes developments, expanding into landscape design with The Arbors (1994) and the Fields (1996). Her fascination with the Japanese concept of 'Shibui'-that perfect balance of harmony between man and nature that creates beauty-has been a guiding factor in all her work. It shaped the landscape design for The Fields, with its unique blend of moving and static water in resort-style installations, and its naturalized beds where massive boulders, ornamental grasses, and native perennials interplay harmoniously. Her unique vision earned The Fields two Prodigy Awards for 'Best Landscaping in the State of Indiana,' and Ms. Pollack herself has led Abodes developments to multiple awards, from floor plans and site development, to marketing and landscaping.
Her wide-ranging arts and design experience began in 1976 as owner and manager of Perennial Designs-a 3,000-square-foot boutique featuring international arts, home furnishings, and designer clothing and accessories. Through the creation of Abodes Design Ms. Pollack has designed and overseen an astonishing diversity of projects: custom furniture (1985); custom Fine Art Prints (1985-2003); a three story (15' x 20') stained glass window, part of the renovation of a Beaux Art Cinema, now on the Registry of National Historic Places (1985); the Town Manor Condominiums, replete with old world balconies looking out over a European style courtyard and fountain (1986); the Devonshire Equestrian Center, focal point of an exclusive 200 acre Abodes subdivision centered with its Olympic size arena and barn, modeled on the Thoroughbred tradition of Bluegrass Kentucky (1988-91); the natural, organically designed Arbors complex, with its ecologically-themed woodland setting (1994); and the design/restoration of the Fields Clubhouse Barn and its cobblestone 'covered bridge' entryway and 25' tall granite fireplace (1996-99).
For The Woods at Latimer, Ms. Pollack carried her landscape vision a step further, creating an environment which expresses her abiding concern with nature preservation and ecology. The property has won top awards for landscaping and for its unique hand-carved limestone signage. The Grove, Abodes' latest development, rises to the challenge of a small project - just 40 units - on a very tight plot of land, incorporating green space and rose gardens even in the midst of designated parking areas, and using building materials in an organic way to harmonize with the wooded surroundings.
Ms. Pollack consults and lectures in her field, and has donated her services to local organizations.
